Found in Layers
The title is in reference to the colors found in the earths crust, yellow, orange, red, and brown. The colors are also colors we, the Hidatsa's used regularly. I like the exploration, digging, revealing aspect of the title, Found in Layers. As if the work has new reveals - even if subtly. This piece is also reminiscent of a Hidatsa parfleche design - as if this work was cut right out of a parfleche bag. And, the Buffalo hide pieces are formal shapes to be used as design elements - something the Hidatsa's also did.

- Teresa Baker
